500 new brands at NY NOW
NY NOW is one of the largest gift fairs in the world and a great opportunity for buyers to check out the trends and new products that will hit Aussie shores later in the year.
Group show director NY NOW and vice president Emerald Expositions, Randi Mohr, says the show this August is showcasing up to 500 new brands, which is something she is very proud of.
“There are about 2,400 brands at this gift fair and its diversity and varying price points is something that works well for all attendees,” she says.
“Half the suppliers exhibit exclusively at NY NOW and heaps of them launch new products, also exclusively, at the show.”
The August fair is a great opportunity to do your last minute shopping before the silly season and the newness and uniqueness of the brands will appeal to buyers, says Mohr.
“Products launched here can’t be found anywhere else and this applies to many categories across the show. About 80 per cent of buyers are independent retailers with one to four stores and in the current retail climate it is important for them to stay ahead of the curve and differentiate themselves. Also, it is a great opportunity to network.”
So what are some of the trends Mohr spotted while walking through the different halls? “The combination of metals and natural elements is still going strong, and boho is making a comeback.
“We have seen a growing trend in men’s and lifestyle products as well as personal accessories such as footwear. Sustainability is still going strong, not just the materials used but also as a business practice.
“Both kids’ and pet product designs have become more sophisticated, becoming part of the home décor, while at the same time kids’ toys are still enjoying a resurgence in wooden and traditional items,” she adds.
