Baking is attracting a younger, more creative following thanks in part to the lure of Instagram but also the arrival of slick new tools that make mixing easier and creative decorating that much more exciting.

Brands such as Ô cuisine, Tala and Zyliss are driving the trend with their focus on melding new age technology with the very best of vintage aesthetics and a very modern twist.

Ô cuisine, the French brand credited with combining the retro lines of the much loved 50s glass cookware with today’s most hi-tech borosilicate glass, has introduced a very clever update on one of baking’s most essential ingredients―the mixing bowl.

The Expert Bowl, with its large capacity of 4.2L, features two inclined areas that tip the bowl to a perfect 35 degree angle making the whisking of egg whites, cream and batters exceptionally easy.

The optimised dimensions of the bowl minimise splashing while making the use of whisks and electric mixers far more efficient.  The bowl features a non-slip grip under the rim and 340-degree handle around the entire perimeter for easy holding.

Ô cuisine’s open Flan Dish, 27cm diameter, is the perfect canvas for those who like to get really creative with cake and flan decoration.  Berries, flowers and sweet treats all form the perfect decorative medium while the dish’s fluted edge is the ultimate in prettiness.

As with all Ô cuisine glass cookware, the Expert Bowl and Flan Dish are highly resistant to chipping and due to their resistance to thermal shock, can be taken from freezer to oven or freezer to microwave without any risk of the glass cracking or shattering.

Tala is the UK brand famed for its commercial quality baking pans that often reference vintage baking aesthetics. The  Performance Springform heart-shaped cake tin is a classic example―the shape invites inspiring decorations for all sorts of occasions, especially Valentine’s Day―but also ensures the perfect baking result every time.

The Tala Heart features a double-layer non-stick coating―essential for removing more intricate shapes from the tin without damage―plus an extra thick commercial grade 1mm steel body and a very dark surface colouring for better absorption of heat.

And what better―and more inspiring―mix than a chocolate heart cake with home-made ice cream? Zyliss has nailed it with its latest release of its award-winning ice cream scoop in a whole range of new luscious colours.

Winner of the international Red Dot Design Award, the Zyliss ice cream scoop can easily scoop the hardest of ice creams. Perfectly balanced and with an ergonomically designed handle, the scoop’s zinc alloy edge slides into any density of ice cream easily and effortlessly.  New summer colours include lavender, magenta, orange, green, blue and red.

Retail prices start at $17.95.
