We may be living in the digital age, but the paperless society is far from being a possibility. While it is common practice now to recycle a variety of materials to reduce the impact our everyday behaviours have on the environment, it still bothers us how much paper is simply tossed into the recycling or rubbish bins after being barely used.
Despite the continuing efforts to recycle, four billion trees are cut down each year to meet demand for paper across the world. Every office uses 10,000 sheets of paper on average each year, and 50 per cent of this will end up as garbage. Australians send 1.9 million tonnes of paper to landfill each year. 12.5 million tonnes of paper and cardboard are used annually in the UK, accounting for one fifth of all waste produced in the UK.
If every person did just that bit more, our small contribution to helping the environment can be done in a big way.
The Paper Saver notebook is a simple solution to put your scrap paper to further use, reducing waste, and doing a bit more for the environment―in a stylish way.
Made from high quality faux leather, the Classic Paper Saver encases a functionally designed spring steel binder inside to cleverly allow you to insert your old print outs so that the back blank sides of the otherwise would-be discarded paper become the pages of your elegant bounded notebook―professional with a modern touch that subtly showcases your support of the environment. Once you have used up both sides of the 50 sheets of paper that fit into the Paper Saver, simply replenish with more of your old printouts―your endless paper supply for pages of your Paper Saver notebook.
The newly launched Leather Paper Saver uses a thick cut of genuine leather encasing the same spring steel binder, and has the added feature of card and document holders made of washable kraft paper (tear and spill resistant) for the corporate lifestyle with a stylish yet sustainable edge.
The Paper Saver notebook was designed and created by Jon Yong, a Melbourne-based architect who grew tired of seeing sheets of printed draft designs become obsolete almost as soon as they came off the printer, still warm. Putting this idea together to put the waste paper to greater use, he soon realised not only could his immediate peers benefit from a Paper Saver as well, but the greater society, and more importantly, the environment.
The Classic Paper Saver comes in black, brown, red, or teal and retails for $25. The Leather Paper Saver is black and retails for $60.
