After 10 years of designing for a range of well-known Australian retailers, Georgie Daphne has made the leap and designed her own range of boutique round cushions and art prints. Passionate about making our day-to-day spaces beautiful, Daphne’s new range is expressive, energetic and colourful.
All of Georgie’s designs are hand-painted during an intuitive process where botanical forms are artfully layered to create the finished prints and patterns.
Daphne has focused on painting plants that have interesting shapes and forms. She then brings in colours that are inspired by the world around her to create punchy fashion-led palettes. Preferring an emotional approach to designing, while creating the new range Daphne worked instinctively to mix and match offbeat-yet-harmonious colour combinations.
Believing there’s no such thing as too many cushions, but wanting to offer something a little different, all Daphne’s cushions are round and feature contrasting designs. The sweet cushions feature Daphne’s beautiful hand-painted botanical patterns, with colour palettes that are true to her signature style. The range includes six designs featuring combinations of soft colours and tactile velvet trims.
Along with her cushions, Daphne has created eight new art prints. The range has developed from worked created for a solo exhibition in 2017. For this successful debut exhibition, Daphne created artwork inspired by her childhood upbringing in the Wheatbelt of WA. She’s drawn on fond memories of hiding in her mum’s gorgeously lush garden, painting every flower she could find. All designs are created digitally from original paintings created with watercolours, ink and gouache.
From fabric being printed in Abbotsford, print printed in Middle Park, to cushions sewn in the same suburb as Daphne’s home, Ringwood, the cushions are Australian made. And being a full-time mum, finding local resources not only allowed Daphne to support local businesses but made managing the manufacturing process manageable.
