Since 1996, Royal Selangor’s partnership with the Victoria & Albert Museum (V&A), the world’s leading museum of art and design has produced timeless collections imbued with historical provenance and complement modern living. The collaboration has been further explored with Streamline and William Morris.
Streamline translates the old-school glitz of the roaring twenties into contemporary home décor. The collection is inspired by the Art Deco movement that spanned the boom of the roaring 1920s and the bust of the Depression- ridden 1930s. The bold circular imagery evokes the geometric elegance of the abstract motifs favoured by Marion Dorn, an iconic 20th century textile designer whose works adorn The Berkeley, Claridge’s and The Savoy.
The collection features concentric circular forms sculpted on a bright pewter surface, bringing to mind the smooth polished surfaces found in homes where opulent parties take place, smoky jazz clubs, and speakeasies. The collection consists of a valet tray, serving tray, trinket box, pendant, candle stand, hip flask and bottle chiller.
William Morris brings the beauty of nature to the fore in the latest collection of wine accessories. The collection is inspired by the titular 19th century English textile designer, artist, writer, and socialist associated with the English Arts and Crafts Movement. The grape and vine motif in the William Morris collection is derived from the ornamental borders for The History of Godefrey of Boloyne (1893) and The Works of Geoffrey Chaucer (1896) by his own Kelmscott Press. William Morris comprises a decanter, bottle chiller, corkscrew, wine funnel, bottle stopper, wine pourer and foil cutter.
Established in 1852, The V&A is the world’s leading museum for decorative art and design. Housing a permanent collection of over 2.3 million objects that span over 5,000 years of human creativity, the museum holds many of the UK’s national collections and houses some of the greatest resources in the fields of arts and fashion.
