The Bigjigs story began in Peter Ireland’s garden shed in Kent, England, in 1985. Ireland hand crafted wooden jigsaws which he and wife Liz sold at craft fairs all over the UK. Today it operates from a large warehouse in Folkestone, Kent and distributes toys to 93 countries worldwide.
Liz and Peter Ireland are both teachers by profession. As a result, child development and education lie at the heart of every Bigjigs product including its popular teaching aids for children. These colourful products include a range of maths trays that develop number recognition, teach times tables and introduce fractions. Alternatively, its compact equation sets offer a boxed series of wooden tiles for learning addition and subtraction or times tables at your own pace.
For young ones learning the alphabet Bigjigs provides a range of easy-to-use teaching aids. This includes chunky wooden puzzles, a three-sided triangle with illustrated rotating letter blocks and a tracing board that little fingers can follow as they learn to recognise individual letters.
Bigjigs also offers a selection of interactive toys that help children learn to count. The most popular of these is the Number Tower. This clever stacking toy can only be completed if individual numbers are stacked in the correct sequence. For more advanced toddlers, the Bigjigs Learn to Count toy provides a series of coloured stacking disks and peek-a-boo tiles.
The Bigjigs Teaching Clock helps young children learn to tell the time while also learning to count to 12. This toy, like every other product in the Bigjigs range, is made using responsibly sourced timber in ethically operated factories that Bigjigs inspects regularly.
Bigjigs is distributed by Artiwood Australia. Its expanding range of educational aids is available to order now. Retailers can also view these products at the upcoming Reed Gift Fair in Sydney from 17 to 20 April.
