Highlights from Maison&Objet January 2023
Despite the widespread transport strikes and an uncertain economic climate, the aisles at Maison&Objet Paris were busy from the very first day, with a steady flow of visitors over the five days including the weekend.
Held from 19 to 23 January, more than 67,000 buyers from the home decor, design and lifestyle industries, nearly 45 per cent of whom were international, visited the fair where more than 2,300 brands were on display spread over seven halls.
This fourth post-Covid show saw the return of visitors from Italy, Middle East and Portugal, while the US had a very strong presence with more than 1,400 Americans attending. There was also the return of Japanese and Korean brands.
There was a focus on the next generation of designers with seven Spanish Rising Talents as well as a colourful ‘British Capsule’: Laura Bethan Wood and Lee Broom were there with the so French Talents, Elise Fouin, Grégory Lacoua, Victoria Wilmotte and Cédric Breisacher, promoting their own collections.
Jean-Charles de Castelbajac introduced new collaborations and Philippe Starck launched his eco-designed collection with Spanish company Andreu World.
The theme Take Care! was illustrated throughout the fair in many ways including highlights dedicated to sustainable design. The Confederation of Danish Industries, in association with Laurence Carr, an expert in design and the circular economy, presented a showcase of 11 exemplary houses, ‘Circularity in Action’, inaugurated in the presence of Princess Marie of Denmark, while the three very young winners of the Future On Stage award showed new products embodying the commitment to the future of the industry.
Visitors were able to take a break and recharge their batteries in the Apothem Lounge, inspiring calm and meditation, which was designed by Designer of the Year, Raphael Navot, where every detail, from the musical ambience to the colours and textures, had been carefully thought out.
Maison&Objet In the City brought together nearly 100 decorators, interior designers, galleries, major companies and artisans to complete the Parisian experience.
The next Maison&Objet will be held from 7 to 11 September 2023.
