Contemporary Australian design brand, SP01, known for its beautifully detailed and hand-finished furniture, is launching designs by London-based designer Tim Rundle and Australian designer of the moment, Tom Fereday.
This year’s new releases explore the possibilities from within the brand’s own collection. Ten new and distinctive pieces draw design inspiration from the successes of the Michelle, Caristo and Jeanette ranges, adding depth to the SP01 collection, and continuing its offering of a contemporary and elegant range with an international appeal, that works well in both the residential and commercial environments.
SP01 is set again to capture the design world’s attention as the new Australian design brand to watch.
The Tim Rundle Collection
“Working with experts in furniture technology and craftsmanship in North East Italy, the spiritual home of chair making, we have developed new additions to the Tim Rundle x SP01 collection, which was first launched in 2017,” says Tim Rundle.
“These pieces continue the bold aesthetic themes established in the initial range, while adding the practical functionalities of dining chairs and low stools.”
Michelle chair & stool
Based on the arch theme that defined the mirror series, the Michelle seating collection is an exercise in pure, almost architectural geometry. On its own, Michelle is a subtle statement of an occasional chair; in multiples, the dining chairs and stools or both, the arched back frame becomes an element of an ordered group that references the classical colonnades.
Caristo dining chair
Building on the success of the Caristo lounge chairs, the dining chair variant takes the form of a familiar typology; it’s lineage apparent in the expressive ‘crushed tube-form’ bracket detail borrowed from its bigger sibling. Available in both upholstered and bare plywood options, the Caristo dining chair make will make itself comfortable in a variety of environments. It also has the added benefit of being stackable.
Jeanette
Responding to the success of the Jeanette chair, Tom Fereday and SP01 have developed a family of pieces that continue the narrative of the Jeanette collection to include a lounge chair, sofa, stool and coffee table range. A combination of precision metal work and traditional hand finishing, Jeanette is a unique sculptural wire lounge and armchair contrasted by soft inviting cushions and elegant and yet inviting high back design.
Offering a range of new materials and finishes, the addition of the Jeanette coffee table range explores natural materials combined with intricate and sophisticated detailing. Machined grooves on the table’s surface create an elegant feature while highlighting the beauty of natural stone and also functioning as water drainage.
Louie
Adding to the Jeanette table collection, Tom Fereday and SP01 will also release the Louie, a new table developed in natural terracotta and stone. With a soft natural finish it is a design that embodies simple elegance, and like all pieces in the SP01 table collection, works both indoors and out.
