Final curtain falls for The Essential Ingredient
After 34 years in business, Aussie cook and kitchenware retailer The Essential Ingredient is closing all remaining stores including its online store while its Sydney and Melbourne outlets remain open until stock runs out.
Only two months ago the popular retailer entered voluntary administration and PwC, which had been appointed as administrator, kept the stores open as it went in search of a buyer.
“The legacy of stock losses during the Covid closure and higher operating costs has all taken a toll on profitability,” said Robert Ditrich from PwC at the time.
The Essential Ingredient made the announcement on both its website and social media with a closing down sale saying the South Melbourne store and online store have now permanently closed and the Prahran market and Sydney retail stores remain open while stocks last.
The retailer was a favourite with many Australians while its wholesale arm supplied many restaurants, cafes and hotels. It also had its fair share of media exposure as it was featured on MasterChef as well as in magazines such as Gourmet Traveller and Women’s Weekly.
“Thank you for your support over the years—let’s make these last moments unforgettable,” it said on social media.
Customers were quick to respond saying it was a sad end to such a wonderful store.
