Kylie Kwong tableware now in store
the highly-anticipated tableware range from popular australian chef kylie kwong is now available in oxfam stores and oxfam online.
created exclusively for oxfam australia, the range of hand painted crockery includes soup and rice bowls with matching plates, a soup spoon, a teapot, teacup and a coffee cup.
consumers can now see where the products were made and meet some of the craftspeople with a short web video released of kwong’s visit to vietnam.
it took 12 months from idea to completion with the tableware made by a majority of female artisans at a fair trade workshop near hanoi. the employees making the pieces receive above average wages, good working conditions and opportunities for training and job progression.
“as a long term advocate of fair trade, i am excited to be able to help raise the profile of this important issue through this project and am really proud of the design we’ve created,” kwong says.
the striking lotus range is charcoal-coloured on the outside and jade green inside and features a hand painted pink lotus flower design.
“in creating the design, i was inspired by the symbol of the lotus, which to me represents femininity, spirituality and the importance of our environment.”
