“I once saw a shocking documentary about the huge amount of plastic that manages to make its way into our oceans, where it changes into a giant garbage patch that resembles plastic soup. I also noticed how many plastic mineral water bottles are thrown away every day, even though in many countries the best drinking water simply comes from the tap. This certainly made me feel uncomfortable. I just had to do something about it!”

In January 2010, Merijn launched a design competition to find ‘the perfect reusable bottle for drinking water’. Out of nearly 100 entries, Rinke van Remortel’s design was chosen. Because of its unique design, the bottle is very easy to keep clean, and is also very durable. What’s more, if you turn the bottle upside-down to rest on its white cup, you are putting water on a pedestal. This philosophy fits perfectly with Merijn’s approach: Tap water on Number 1.

The Dopper bottle is made of PP and the white cup of ABS. That probably does not tell you anything, but luckily, we do. We have chosen these materials because they are 100 per cent recyclable and free from harmful substances and toxic plasticisers. That makes the Dopper completely BPA free.

Thanks to the light materials and contents of 450ml, the Dopper Original easily fits in your backpack, sportbag and handbag, so you always have water on the go.

The Dopper Foundation was founded in 2013. For Dopper, this was the next logical step toward creating a better world. Through the Dopper Foundation we can achieve our mission to increase active awareness regarding the impact of single-use plastic waste and help provide access to safe drinking water worldwide.

Our responsibility goes beyond our own faucets. The Dopper Foundation works together with local partner Simavi to improve drinking water and sanitation through projects in Nepal, a country in which 11 per cent of the population lacks access to safe drinking water―a statistic Dopper is helping to improve.
