Axis Toys introduces Yogi Fun to Australia―a range of puzzle and games all centred around yoga principles to create a mindful approach to play.
Yoga has many advantages: practicing the poses strengthens the body and makes it more flexible, it improves our stability and balance, connects us to our body and improves our self-image. Yoga also helps to cope with emotions, enables us to discharge energy and improves attentiveness and concentration. By doing yoga routinely, one can go to the next stage and study values such as collaboration, inclusiveness, acceptance, mutual respect, and most importantly self-love.
The range was developed by Karin Sella, a kids yoga instructor and biomedical engineer, who realised that perhaps there was a more accessible way to help introduce kids (and their parents) to yoga, and to help kids learn and develop in various aspects through the wonderful world of yoga. Along with Guy Meltzer, a fellow yoga teacher and father of two kids, they developed the Yogi Fun range.
The range includes:
The Yogi Fun Kit of 40 cards which has illustrated cards paired with cards explaining the poses in rhyme. As you recite the poem you immediately relax into the pose―for children and adults alike it’s a wonderful opportunity to gather together and relax. Created to encourage self-confidence, focus and flexibility, the set includes four game suggestions including a birthday party activity.
The 49 piece puzzle has several roles. Once assembled, you can practice all the poses in turn from the top clockwise which promotes fine motor skills, spatial thinking and sequential movement. An information sheet explains each pose to assist.
The memory matching game has 36 cards small cards with 18 matching pairs so it is great for memory skills, concentration and physical activity while laying out a series of poses that can be incorporated into the game to make it even more fun.
Now with the dice game, this is the moving, bending and twisting game! It includes four wooden dice in a tube and the game encourages improvisation and self-expression as well as group play. This is a great one to keep in your handbag as an activity resource for the kids.
And the colouring book has 44 fun pages to colour in―each illustrated pose complemented by a poem to assist with the pose so it allows children to remember their favourite one and being compact it’s again handy as a travel resource.
The fun of yoga for children is that it combines movement, breathing exercises and concentration, relaxation and guided imagination using curious, challenging and enjoyable games. It is possible to exercise alone, with friends and siblings and of course with parents. It is something the whole family can benefit from.
