Royal Selangor launches new retail outlet
Malaysian pewter brand Royal Selangor recently opened its newest store at The Emporium, Melbourne. The luxurious fitout is the perfect match for the high end shopping complex.
“The architecture concept of the Emporium Melbourne which merges the old and new fits in with Royal Selangor, a 129 year-old brand that is constantly reinventing itself to keep up with modern lifestyle needs and aspirations,” says Chen Tien Yue, executive director of Royal Selangor marketing.
The store’s interior combines traditional and modern elements and its most prominent interior detail is the cashier counter decorated with pewter tiles forming a mengkuang weave motif, a traditional Malaysian craft.
“We invite everyone to discover Royal Selangor’s fine pewter design and rich heritage of craftsmanship.”
The new store showcases pieces from Royal Selangor’s collections ranging from pewter giftware to modernist tableware, home décor and ornamental designs. Partnering with international designers such as London based VW+BS and Denmark’s Erik Magnussen has resulted in contemporary pieces that emphasise modernity and ease of use. The company has also introduced fresh interpretations of classical designs, through close collaboration with museums such as the Victoria and Albert Museum of London and the National Palace Museum in Taipei.
Royal Selangor is available in over 20 countries, including stores such as Wako in Japan and Harrods in the United Kingdom. It also has its own retail stores in Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong and China.
