South Korean pet brand launches at Maison&Objet
South Korea is not a country you normally would associate with pet accessories, however, new brand wakwak is trying to change this perception.
Exhibiting at Maison&Objet Paris in September for the first time, the brand garnered a lot of interest from major department stores as well as Amazon.
Looking for distributors in Europe and Asia, CEO Younghee Lee says the show was great to meet new people and introduce her brand.
“wakwak has been in business since 2019,” she explains.
“The sound of ‘wakwak’ is a cheerful sound that expresses small pleasures and happiness in the daily life of companion animals like dogs and people.
“wakwak also stands for WalkWalk. We want to deliver a positive message by always being together, pets and humans going on their walks together.”
wakwak’s first product was a leash in beautiful, pastel colours. Currently its lines include leads, toys and harnesses. The design reflects the brand’s name and is about the relationship between pets and people. All products are designed by Lee herself and are made in South Korea.
With consumers worldwide looking for sustainable products whether it is for themselves, their homes or their pets, many companies such as wakwak had their eco-friendly and/or ethical ranges on display at Maison&Objet.
“We use non-toxic and natural materials so all our products are safe for pets. We are also branching out into cat accessories as well as some kids collections, using the same non-toxic and natural materials,” she adds.
