The Big Design Trade returns to Melbourne this July

Boutique trade fair for original and ethical made gifts and design, The Big Design Trade, will be held again at Meat Market in North Melbourne.

Running from 29 to 31 July, the event is celebrating its face to face return after a Covid-19 affected year with a highly curated selection of over 100 Australian and international brands.

The Big Design Trade is an event like no other―it is the trade show to attend for buyers who are looking to source premium brands with exceptional products in fashion, jewellery, ceramics, stationery, homewares, kids products and more, enthuses owner and director, Simon Obarzanek.

“We're Australia's premier retail trade platform for creative brands looking to connect with like-minded creative retailers,” he says.

The Big Design Trade 2021 brings together some of Australia’s most innovative design brands including Orbitkey, Luxtech, All the Kings Men, Silo, Ivy Muse, L’ascari, Sands Made, Erin Lightfoot Studio, AHD Paper Co and Red Parka.

“The Big Design Trade was the first trade show I’ve been to and was a huge success for my small design business,” says Red Parka founder Jennifer Cossins.

“Since attending last year my wholesale business has more than doubled and it has been really exciting seeing my original designs, created here in Tasmania, popping up in beautiful stores around Australia.”

Among the new labels to feature at The Big Design Trade are PATCH Bamboo Bandages―natural and hypoallergenic first aid; Cream Collection (comfortable and organic aprons and chef-wear); unique contemporary tableware from RL Foote Design Studio; Misty’s Salted Caramel, Only Orb creating refillable, scented vessels; Monista Tea; Rice Paper the Label; Upmovement, which donates 100 per cent of their sock-profits to creating prosthetic limbs in low-income and war-torn countries; Maekar, and The Wood People.

Continuing its collaborations with Oprah in 2021 and exclusive to The Big Design Trade is Write to Me, encouraging everyone to write about their personal ‘Aha’ moments in life. In addition, the brand will also be creating two new journals for 2022 with artwork designed by artist and CASTLE owner, Rachel Castle.

“Mothers, mothers to be and friends of people having babies purchase our product,” co-founders Nicoletta & Anna Constanti told the organisers.

“We think they love it because everyone is sentimental around babies and documenting their moments as we are all aware of how quickly time goes and how they grow so fast.

“We feel in our community of customers that people are very in tune to how quick life goes, how things can change, how important it is to document life so memories don’t go forgotten. As far as our planner brand goes we know that mothers have so much on their plate and they welcome our theory of when you put pen to paper you have the ability to calm the chaos in your life. Everyone feels how busy life is. We are all searching for simplicity.”
