Australian brand Bold Living Design has created the world’s first odour and germ free kitchen bin, O3Bin.
Designed to keep the kitchen cleaner and more hygienic, the O3Bin uses a UV light to eliminate odours and micro-organisms by creating ozone gas inside the bin. This patented design kills 99.9 per cent of bacteria.
“Ozone is a form of oxygen which works as a powerful oxidising agent,” says Bold Living Design director Eli Shreiber. “Once the lid is closed, the UV light activates to begin eliminating odours immediately.”
An LED light on the hands-free lid shows when the UV light is active, and a buzzer beeps when the bin has been closed incorrectly or is open for more than 30 seconds. The UV light has a long lifespan of 20,000 hours.
“The idea for the O3Bin came from listening to people complain about how dirty and smelly kitchen bins were,” says Shreiber. “How could something so necessary, found in every kitchen, not meet the basic standards we keep with the rest of the kitchen? In the past 18 months we have been working together with leading international laboratory SGS to provide a complete solution for a healthier kitchen environment.”
The O3Bin is both functional and contemporary and comes in 18L and 30L sizes, in six different colours (matt silver, mirror silver, white, cream, red and black).
The O3Bin will be available in Australia by mid-November 2014.
