Byron Bay Company set for national growth
Originally sold at local markets, chopping and food display boards by Byron Bay Company are on track to reach consumers across Australia after the brand made its trade fair debut in August.
The small business was taken over at the start of the year with the intention of growing its distribution and product range.
“We were looking for something that was already established to grow it and this was ideal,” says Amanda Britter, marketing manager Byron Bay Company. “It’s Australian-made, it’s made here in Byron and it’s made from a species that basically shouldn’t be in this country so it’s quite sustainable and the timbers are salvaged from areas that should have more habitat than introduced species.”
Byron Bay Company’s products are made from camphor laurel wood, which is known for having high anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. Pieces include preparation boards, serving boards, novelty shaped boards and boards with bowls. There is also a camphor chest and plans to add more products to the range.
Britter says Byron Bay Company’s first trade show appearance was a success and exposed the business to new clients.
“It went extremely well,” she adds. “We didn’t actually expect the reaction we got which was very positive, not only for the display but we actually took a number of orders and made clients basically on the spot, which was great.
“The trade fair introduced us to people all over Australia to all sorts of businesses, not just re-sellers in terms of kitchenware products, there were tourist places, there was someone there from the Australian National Museum, people who do weddings, corporate gifts, and there was a terrific range of people that we were able to present to.”
