Charlie’s Cookies enjoys the sweet life with a new factory
charlie’s cookies is starting the new year on a sweet note with a new factory for the company situated in bentleigh, melbourne, where locals can purchase factory seconds and be tempted by the wafting scent of baking cookies.
“manufacturing in australia isn’t always easy, but we’re committed to making 100 per cent of our products right here in melbourne,” says charlie’s cookies sales and marketing director jacky magid.
the new factory houses a shop selling charlie’s cookies’ factory seconds, encompasses production for the company’s coveted delicacies and marks a big step up for a company that was as bite-sized as its famous cookies just six years ago.
purchased by husband and wife entrepreneurs ken mahlab and jacky magid when it was well into the red, charlie’s cookies has grown into a thriving boutique brand that supplies both the national retail and foodservice markets.
in 2004, ken left the corporate sector to purchase a much-loved local cookie shop that had fallen into administration. corporate lawyer jacky joined the company in 2007 as sales and marketing director.
“we’re still working hard but we don’t mind the long hours, because we’re spending time together to put joy into people’s lives, one bite at a time,” magid says.
recently honoured as manufacturing representative of the year at the foodservice industry awards of excellence, magid now works side by side with her husband to bring a range of delicious gourmet treats to both the food service industry and the consumer market.
“at charlie’s we believe that life’s short, so you should take your pleasure seriously,” magid says. “i’ve used that same philosophy in my career.”
