Double award win for Ventura Games
distributor ventura games is celebrating after winning two awards for educational product rory’s story cubes.
it took out the independent toy specialists of australia game of the year award and australian toy association educational toy of the year.
general manager dean renshaw says while credit should go to its creator, manufacturer and the retailers who have supported it, the double win is an honour.
“there are very few awards in the toy industry, so to win any award is fantastic, let alone two of the most prestigious awards for the one product,” he says. “it is both a proud and humbling moment to have our product recognised as one of the best educational products in 2012.”
he believes the product won the judges over with its simplicity.
“the simplicity of the game is very important: simply roll the dice and tell a story based on the images. typically a game will last around 15 minutes, so it's quick to play, although the game can easily be extended by having multiple rounds.
“you can play solitary or with others. rory's story cubes can be used as or for a party game or ice-breaker, literacy development, speaking and listening skills, creative inspiration, mental workout and problem solving,” renshaw explains.
rory’s story cubes had already won a host of awards overseas but renshaw says it’s the australian accolades that hold the most clout with local shoppers.
“local recognition adds credibility and will have a much greater impact on the australian consumer. in most cases, it would be safe to say that overseas awards or organisations are not really known or recognised by the australian consumer. to have two local organisations recognise our product is very exciting.”
