Textile studio Feliz has developed a bright new collection that will launch at Life Instyle Melbourne this August.
The range has been inspired by travel, colour, kids and fun, and can easily be mixed and matched with the brand’s existing styles. “We really, really love the idea that a little bit of Feliz will sit happily in any home,” says co-founder Mel Alessi.
Feliz—which is the Spanish word for happy—currently sells a range of organic cotton bedding, along with cushions, throws and prints featuring pops of colour, spots, stripes, and the occasional ‘fiesta’.
Alessi and Jane Forbes began Feliz in 2013 after becoming first time mums and wanting to create something. “We came together with a burning desire to start something for ourselves,” explains Alessi. “We had spoken about it forever and felt the timing was right for us, so we made a leap of faith.”
This leap has paid off, and the pair is incredibly passionate about their growing brand. All design work is done in house by Forbes and production is kept as local as possible. “Jane plays with colours, textures and painting techniques in our studio in Geelong,” says Alessi.
“A lot of the designs in the range have been hand painted by her, which is such a unique aspect to our linen. We have strived to keep as much of the production in Melbourne whether hand printed by us or by local printers.”
Through Feliz, the pair enjoys bringing a pop of happiness into homes, and loves the community they have found since starting the business. “Feliz is an extension of us and neither of us could see ourselves doing anything else,” says Alessi. “We are quite lucky to have found work that we are passionate about.
“We have some really wonderful stores that stock us… There are so many amazing, entrepreneurial women out there running businesses as well as having families and I do feel that we are all supporting each other in pursuing our dreams.”
