Free point-of-sale app makes transactions easier
New point-of-sale (POS) software Square Register has just launched in Australia. Already used by millions of businesses in the United States, the free app turns any Android or iOS device into a cash register.
Square Register can be used by businesses of all sizes and includes features normally limited to paid-for POS systems. This includes tracking sales, issuing receipts, managing cash, sending daily summary emails and creating custom reports that provide insights into transactions and sales trends.
The app has been developed by Square Inc, which was founded in 2009 by Jack Dorsey, co-creator of Twitter. It has been designed to work in conjunction with another Square Inc product that allows users to turn their smart phone into a credit card reader.
“The cash register was invented to solve the basic pain points of running a business, like recording sales,” says Dorsey. “Our register empowers sellers to drill into their business with sophisticated reporting tools to run and grow their business.”
Early Australian adopter Michael Cheang, who runs a small business in Perth, has seen the benefits of using the app rather than investing in expensive POS equipment and infrastructure.
“We came across the app when searching the internet for point-of-sale solutions,” says Cheang. “We looked into all the alternative options, and ultimately chose Square for its simple layout.
“We love Register’s clear design, fast movement between screens and access to important info about my business online if I want it.”
The software supports 130 different currencies and is now available for download worldwide in English, Spanish, French and Japanese.
