Limited edition prints feature in new bag range
Melbourne-based women’s accessory brand Cassia Essentiels launched two new collaborations with local artists at Life Instyle last week.
One of the artists is Nicole Slater who has a bright and bold design aesthetic, which works well with Cassia’s focus on contemporary patterns, vibrant colour and prints across its range of handbags, clutches, satchels and backpacks.
“Together we have designed and launched a clutch bag range for spring/summer, which features bright and playful artwork on canvas,” says Cassia Essentiels designer Fonny Meilia.
“We also started a new line using abstract painting on vegetable tan leather to create playful handcrafted key rings.”
Cassia started in 2013 and grew out of a love of pattern, prints and handmade items. Meilia says the brand’s approach is to create “limited-edition prints in small batches, handcrafted to feature and highlight the artwork we paint or directly commission for each piece.
“We believe in providing a platform for young and emerging artists, who can achieve broader exposure via a different media in the form of retail products.”
Cassia also focuses on using sustainable materials that are practical for everyday use as well including 100 per cent cotton canvas and lining.
“As sustainable materials become more accessible, Cassia is proud to be at the forefront of the industry working directly with suppliers and producers to source raw materials,” explains Meilia.
“This approach has a further benefit to Cassia, seeing us constantly travelling and exploring, tapping inspiration that we may never have otherwise encountered.”
Meilia is planning two more collaborations towards the end of this year that will highlight the work of emerging artists.
“Our long-term plan is to provide ongoing support to young Australian artists who have demonstrated talent and potential.”
