Monique Germon launches online designer gallery and store
monique germon recently launched story, an online store and gallery featuring the curated work of talented australian artists and international designers including the work of tasmanian-based tara badcock.
the website features an e-commerce portal allowing consumers who visit the site to purchase from the creative collection of art and designer products though above all, the venture salutes the art of storytelling through a unique combination of creativity, commerce and commodity.
“story is the curation of ideas through product, word and the exploration of a new kind of narrative,” germon explains.
“story takes pleasure in exhibiting the work of individuals who make a significant contribution through the production of exceptional art and design.”
as a friend and artistic collaborator of germon, tasmanian-based artist tara badcock is deeply honoured that germon has chosen to feature some of her exquisitely embroidered homewares and art on the new website.
“monique has been a supporter of my work since i started my tara badcock paris+tasmania design identity in 2005 and 2006 and we have collaborated on several projects since then, so it’s been wonderful to work with monique again to create this first collection for story,” badcock says.
“the response has been overwhelming, the comments and interest for this collection have been amazing and are coming in from all over the world. the perceptions of visitors to the story site show that my cushions and tea cosies are seen as domestic artworks and collector's items as well as everyday pieces, which i'm really happy with.”
released under the paris+tasmania umbrella, badcock’s current collection features a pared down palette in response to germon’s creative direction for story.
“i have hand embroidered on each piece stems from stories drawn from my own experiences, so that each item bears a message or piece of advice i've found useful or bolstering in life. i'm currently working on the next collection for story, which draws inspiration from the mend-and-make-do era where country crafts were indispensable.”
