Melbourne makers Sarah Triolo, founder of Glasshouse Terrariums, and artist Rachel Bainbridge have collaborated on a new range that brings together indoor plants and contemporary resin art.
The two young mums created the Art-House Series, which includes wall art and hanging platforms with plants attached, to provide customers with a simple way to incorporate greenery into their homes.
Triolo, a former vet who began making terrariums in 2011, turned her hobby into a business 12 months ago and says she has seen low-maintenance indoor plants become more popular as living spaces get smaller and we become more time poor. Along with terrariums she also makes kokedama moss balls, which are a form of bonsai where the root ball and soil mix is wrapped in a layer of sphagnum moss.
“Our Art-House series currently consists of a monochrome collection and a pastel collection with various resin art hanging platforms, a modern take on the vertical garden using resin artwork to hold air plants, [and] placemats as bases for kokedamas,” she explains.
“We feel proud that each piece is completely handmade by ourselves, and that every piece we offer is unique.”
For Bainbridge, who launched her business Rachel Bainbridge Art late last year with a collection of handcrafted homewares, the collaboration was a natural next step that allows her to share her love of nature and plant life.
The products have been designed with durability in mind, ensuring they look beautiful at the time of purchase and well into the future.
“Resin art is water resistant, which is an important quality when being used with plants and the sleek glass-like finish is the perfect complement to a terrarium range,” says Triolo.
“We both feel very strongly about creating something that is of high quality and sustainable so that customers are buying a product that is made to last.”
