Online homewares retailer says goodbye to retail
Hunting for George has decided to no longer be part of the Aussie retail sector by closing its online retail store.
After being in the industry for more than nine years, it felt it was the right time to move into another direction says co-founder Lucy Glade-Wright. The company will now continue to operate as a creative media company.
“Hunting for George has always been much more than just a retailer,” she says. “Since day one we have sought to create unique stories to share with our community and my passion for this aspect of the brand has always been what inspires me.”
Existing orders will still be fulfilled, however, customers won’t be able to place any new orders.
“Whilst you will no longer be able to buy your beautiful homewares and furniture directly from us online we will continue to be your go-to source of inspiration for the home, design and lifestyle. Including us bringing you even more of what you love, such as the best in homewares, home tours, how-tos and more.”
This change in direction also means the departure of Hunting for George’s other co-founder, Jo Harris, who has joined retail consultancy, Milk It Academy.
“We have learnt so much over the past nine years in retail and I’m extremely proud of all our achievements. I won’t sugar coat it, retail is tough and for the most part we loved the hustle.
“However, in the end, our retail offering became a costly distraction from the area of our business that was most fulfilling and successful,” says Glade-Wright.
Glade-Wright says she is looking forward to the next chapter for Hunting for George and the company already has a lot of interest, so watch this space!
