Based in Cape Town South Africa, Spaza’s functional, eco-friendly handmade products are made by women in home industries, empowering care givers to earn an income while remaining available at home and present in their communities.
Founded by Julia Schaffer in 2013, the designs are inspired by her daily tasks and a need for alternatives to disposable household items. The products are designed by Schaffer with careful consideration for the natural, sustainable and raw materials that are locally available. A key focus behind every single product is the concept of zero waste and the drive for a plastic-free world.
With environmental kindness and the upliftment of people at the core of every product, Spaza’s range includes a beautiful selection of dish and bowl covers in varying shapes and sizes, kitchen cleaning products, bread and produce bags.
Spaza’s dish covers are the perfect alternative to single-use plastic wraps. They are washable, adjustable and reusable. The best part of their design is that they are breathable. Breaking the myth that food needs to be stored in air-tight containers, the fact that they are breathable means that as food cools down, the air is able to circulate so there is no condensation, which in turn means no water droplets forming and ultimately ending up in your food. In short, salads and vegetables stay crisp longer than they would in an air-tight container.
Each of Spaza’s dry goods and produce bags has a handy draw string for closure, and comes with a tarre label, making shopping from whole or bulk foods stores a breeze.
The bread bags come in different shapes and sizes too ranging from extra-long baguette bags to nice wide loaf and bread roll bags.
Spaza’s eco-friendly cleaning range comprises 100 per cent biodegradable, natural materials. Hand knitted from jute, sisal or cotton they can be washed in a dishwasher and last for months.
The entire range is available in Australia and New Zealand exclusively through Buxton Hanley.
