Tassie brand brings eco-friendly food wrap to the mainland
A little discontented with the amount of plastic and waste that comes out of the average kitchen, Sustomi founder, Bronwyn Kidd, took matters into her own hands and created a product that would enable people to reduce their waste, minimise toxic plastics and help the environment.
Launched in February 2016, Sustomi aims to reduce the amount of waste in the world and to promote good health through diet and lifestyle, explains Kidd.
“Sustomi presents reusable food storage items for moving towards a sustainable home,” she says.
“Beeswax food wraps are our specialty products, which are a fun and functional alternative to plastic food wrap. Our collection adds a colourful, energetic edge to reducing household waste. All items are designed and made in Tasmania, Australia.”
Kidd exhibited at the AGHA Sydney Gift Fair for the first time with Sustomi and says the feedback has been great.
“We received a good response. Our product is something new to the visitors of the expo. Many people loved the concept, while it was very foreign and not relevant to others.
“I decided to exhibit at AGHA to get exposure to retailers across Australia. As we come from Tasmania, the exposure on ‘the mainland’ is what we were after.
“As our products belong to a specific niche―eco-friendly, designer homewares―we are looking for retailers with a keen interest in eco-friendly products and who really who want to push an organic, slow living lifestyle,” she adds.
Kidd aims to grow in the future through more online promotion and by attending events Australia wide, such as expos and large designer markets.
