LisaSarah expands recycled steel range
New Zealand design brand LisaSarah has focused on recycled steel, circles and colour for the launch of her new collection, which features 18 designs.
Designer Lisa Turley was inspired by the success of her six piece Industry collection to develop more pieces using recycled steel.
“I really love how, with recycled steel, not only is it brilliant for our environment but also each piece I cut is different,” she says. “Each piece has its own imperfections and patina and everyone has a different idea of what they like too – I love a more rusted look whereas others prefer no rust. The most fantastic thing is that rust can be removed with white vinegar so essentially, you can customise the steel to what you like.”
The best-seller in the collection ‘there are so many reasons to be happy’ sold out at the recent Autumn Gift Fair and was inspired by Turley’s sister who was diagnosed with cancer late last year.
“I think it ‘speaks’ to you. It’s one of those sayings that just resonates and you keep thinking about. It’s also very simple and would appeal to a wide range of people and decors. It was inspired by my sister getting sick. Our Christmas holiday was doom and gloom as each piece of news we got seemed to be worse. I looked after my niece and nephew during the hardest times and absolutely loved spending time with them and watching them with my kids hence ‘there are so many beautiful reasons’.”
The new collection is considered more industrial than LisaSarah’s past ranges with many more shapes, as consumers increase their willingness to experiment with home décor.
Retailers have enjoyed the ability to choose a colour to back the steel with. Neon pink and yellow have been popular choices.
“I’ve always loved stainless but recycled steel is a whole new ball game. Each batch of steel that I use is different, with different colours coming through and my stockists/customers really enjoy that it’s not ‘cookie cut’ art.”
