NZ brand continues Aussie expansion
New Zealand homewares brand The Good Housewife will exhibit at the Melbourne Home & Giving Fair this August, after launching to the Australian market in February.
The Good Housewife was started three years ago in Auckland by two people who thought there was room in the New Zealand market for a premium homewares brand, says co-founder Nash Vazifdar.
“[The brand] is beautifully constructed for those willing to make just a little more effort to find and own a premium product,” he says. “It is for the type of person who prefers to buy their produce from the local farmers market rather than the supermarket.”
The company’s name represents its approach to design, and was coined when the founders were sitting in a factory in India, overwhelmed with the choices to create their sheets.
“One of us turned to the other and simply said, rather than overcomplicating the choice—‘which would a good housewife select for her family?’” explains Vazifdar.
This is reflected in the brand’s previous collections, which have featured bold colours with minimalist designs on cushions, bed linen, tea towels, chopping boards and throws. For its latest collection, Vazifdar says The Good Housewife has used its first few ranges as inspiration and to guide the direction of the brand, ensuring the products remain pared back and modern.
All the products are designed in New Zealand, and where possible the company tries to support the local production industry as well. Currently all packaging is produced in New Zealand along with some of the products, while the rest of the range is made in India and China.
