Cricket themed accessories brand hits it for six at Life Instyle
Growing up in Devon, England Lona and Jim Parry were both passionate about cricket from an early age. In 2014 the husband and wife team, now living in Melbourne, decided to channel this passion into The Game, a range of cricket-themed leather accessories.
“Cricket was always a part of our lives,” says Lona Parry. “We started The Game out of that passion for cricket and a belief that cricket passionates look for quality, tangible reminders of the game they love.”
The pair has created a range of leather wallets with distinctive cricket ball seam stitching fittingly named The Opener, The Nightwatchman, The Googly, The Slip and new additions The Yorker and The Tourist, which both launched at Life Instyle Melbourne this month.
“We’re proud to say that our wallets are a combination of English and Australian cricket passion (a bit like the Ashes),” says Parry.
“They’re handcrafted using premium vegetable tanned Italian leather with a unique stitching finish that gives you a product that will feel personal to the owner.”
Along with sharing their passion for cricket the Parrys also wanted The Game to give back and so $5 from every wallet sold is donated to the McGrath Foundation.
“Jim had worked with the McGrath Foundation in his previous job and knew firsthand the great work they do to support breast cancer suffers and their families,” says Parry.
“We wanted to share, support and give back to our community and the McGrath Foundation with their close association with cricket seemed a really great fit for us.”
Although cricket is their sport of choice, Parry says she knows not everyone feels the same way and so The Game will be branching out.
“Whilst cricket is our own personal sporting passion, we know that for others it may be golf, tennis or perhaps football,” she says.
“We want to be able to create products that allow customers to connect to their sporting passions. We’ve already got ideas and designs underway, so watch this space.”
