Childhood memories inspire Milk & Masuki’s new collection
Organic babywear brand Milk & Masuki has released its Woodland Studio range, featuring prints reminiscent of playtime in the forest.
“For this collection Woodland Studio we wanted to create a feeling of whimsy and fun that is unique to children’s imagination,” says Rachael Freeman, co-founder. “I have particular memories spending time as a kid in rural NSW playing in the pine forests, so we thought that we would bring some of those images and that sense of playfulness into the range.”
The Woodland Studio collection includes t-shirts, dribble bibs, wraps, blankets and onesies. Pieces are gender neutral with colours such as black, lilac, neon orange and jewel turquoise.
“Through this inspiration we came up with hand-drawn animals which feature across the range, including owls, foxes, bears, deer, and even rabbits. We contrasted the fury friends with fun abstract designs to reflect the energy of childhood. We also used the paintbrush motif which is a little reference to our backgrounds as visual artists.”
Milk & Masuki believes its focus on surpassing customers’ expectations of what babywear should look like have paid off with the new range receiving a positive response. This is reflected in sales as the most popular print in the collection is Sammy – an abstract design. “I think it shows people are ready to step away from cutesy and try new things,” adds Freeman.
“With this collection we really tried to push the boundaries in terms of the baby wear market. We feel people are really looking for items that are outside the square and are excited to find a unique product that is also made with organic cotton. We were much more bold with our colours, and not afraid to use high black and fluros in our palate.”
