Alphabet blocks turn design pieces
Rose & Lily Australia will launch the Uncle Goose House Industries wooden block range at Kids Instyle Melbourne this August.
The collection is aimed at adults as well as children because of its strong design aesthetic. It is a collaboration between the Uncle Goose brand and font, illustration and design studio House Industries. Retailers can choose from Eames House, Girard Alphabet, Kokeshi and Alphabet Factory block designs.
“The Uncle Goose House Industries range crosses from children’s blocks to art pieces,” says Michele Blanshard, Rose & Lily Australia owner and director. “While the House Industries range is alphabet blocks, the fonts and illustrations pay homage to great designers and architects, and the design industry itself, from the last century.
“For example, the Eames Alphabet Blocks include 36 blocks that showcase letters, numerals and symbols from the Eames Century Modern collection of fonts. This block set also recreates the landmark Eames House and Studio created by architects Charles and Ray Eames. This set was created in collaboration with the Eames Foundation.
“For the Girard Alphabet Blocks, House Industries used their unique collection of typography and objects inspired by the work of mid-century designer Alexander Girard.”
Blanshard added Uncle Goose to Rose & Lily Australia’s portfolio earlier this year. It was well-received by retailers with the first shipment selling out in eight weeks.
She is expecting a similarly strong reaction to the launch of Uncle Goose House Industries collection.
“The Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney has already placed their order for House Industries. We anticipate that they will be very popular amongst retailers for their aesthetic appeal, including their beautiful packaging, functionality as alphabet blocks, quality manufacturing in the US, and environmental credentials – made from sustainably sourced Michigan basswood and finished with child-safe inks free from heavy metals,” she adds.
