Artists and celebrities decorate chairs for breast cancer awareness
ten adirondeck chairs will get a special makeover as part of an initiative to raise cash for the national breast cancer foundation.
tv personalities alyce platt and suzie wilks will join illustrator graeme base and artist jamie daddo to paint or carve the chairs, which will be up for grabs as part of the porch’s pink chair-ity auction fundraiser.
prior to the event, the chairs will be on display at garden and exhibition spots around melbourne.
“painting adirondack chairs for charity fundraisers is very popular in america, so we thought it would be a perfect way we could use our signature product to help with the important work of the national breast cancer foundation,” says the porch co-owner julie athanasiou.
“my own mother is a breast cancer survivor and i’ve always felt grateful to the improved treatment which meant her survival. if it wasn’t for the research funds of organisations like the national breast cancer foundation then the outcome might have been different.
“the theme of the artwork will be ‘pink: life, love, beauty’ as we wanted to emphasise the importance of taking time to enjoy the beauty in life. we think everyone should take time to sit and relax with a view. cancer rates are said to be affected by the amount of stress in people’s lives, this exhibition will be about taking time to enjoy life.”
the display kicks off in february 2012 with the ebay auction ending may 11 2012.
