Ashdene launches Mexican-themed stoneware collection
best-selling cookbook author and designer daniella germain has teamed up with wholesaler ashdene for a new stoneware range called la cocina.
the collection will be launched at the august home & giving fair in melbourne.
germain’s hand painted designs feature on plates, mugs, bowls and platters. along with the name they evoke the essence of mexico.
“mexico runs through my veins,” she says. “my grandmother’s recipes inspired me to create the cookbook [my abuela’s table] and now i have a wonderful opportunity to create a mexican-inspired range of stoneware.
“when it comes to homewares, i love rich colours, and splashes of teal, yellows and reds. i guess this is also shown through my work. i like colour where it matters and natural tones for more subtle designs.
“i also love vintage and mid-century design. my fiancé and i have collected some gorgeous pieces including an old type-setter draws, a gorgeous old radio cabinet and a set of old wooden library index-card draws.
“of course i love mexican style and design, which is reflected in our bright blue and white kitchen, styled with a few key pieces i have bought on my adventures in mexico. actually, my whole house has a little mexican influence spotted throughout. now i can’t wait to have my own mexican style stoneware range sitting on my kitchen shelves.”
