Trends and colour feel 2017
The new season and new year are well and truly here, bringing with them a change of mood―one that welcomes a complete connection between colours and trends, which go hand in hand.
This year will see the re-launch of colour: colourful interiors, fashion décor, designs and graphics. A tint never comes on its own, however, and talking about colour means speaking volumes, surfaces and finishes. Colour is much more than just a hue―it’s also about texture.
Green appeal―despite seeing an abundance of pastel shades of pink and blue last year, green is the pantone colour for 2017 and will compliment one of the leading trends for this year―creating a calm environment within the home. This trend will evolve, bringing a touch of the outdoors indoors, with an elegant mix of green shades perfectly matched with timber, leather and natural fibres.
Slow consciousness―closely aligned to the above, stress-reducing tones will also be extremely popular this year and will feature as a key element in many homes. Creating a calm and tranquil environment to come home will be the main focus for this trend and will see a shift away from bold colours and décor. Embrace airy light blues, greys and neutral tones in order to create a relaxed colour palette within the home – complimented by a balance of solid and ephemeral décor.
Cultural clout―the influence of different cultures will be extremely strong this season, as we see cultural references displayed more frequently in both colour and design. In stark contrast to the trend of slow consciousness, and drawing on inspiration from Africa, bold and vibrant vocal tones will take an important space in this year’s colour palette. This will be reflected when complemented by strong shades, graphic patterns and décor that offer a sense of dynamic motion.
