Grandma’s recipes inspire Ogilvies Designs new festive range
ogilvies designs has launched victorian cherub, a nostalgic new collection which fuses the popular vintage décor trend with a festive touch and recipes directly from an old family cookbook.
the products include aprons, placemats and tablerunners in base stone with red and black images and white text. these colours are reflective of those used in the original recipe book.
“i have been wanting to use my grandmother’s hand written recipes in a textile design for a while now,” says owner annamaria ogilvie. “so seeing this vintage style is becoming popular i decided that now was the right time to dust off the cobwebs on this old piece of family history and combine it with food and wine related victorian etchings and calligraphy written quotes to make a kitchen and homewares range for this season. the addition of cherubs to the design helped with the festive feel i was trying to create.”
ogilvies designs unveiled the range at the melbourne gift fair. retailers were thrilled to see a vintage themed product using australian text rather than french writing and parisian landmarks, which is commonly used in the design of vintage products.
“we had an enormous response to this new range at the gift fair and once we told our customers of the history and the fact that the design had some local meaning they all were keen to include this collection in their retail product offer for this coming season.”
the recipes were used by ogilvie’s grandmother julia at the leichhardt pub, which she owned with her sister nellie in the 1920s. the family is proud its heritage will be shared with other australians who enjoy celebrating the simple pleasure of good food and wine.
the current range may not be the last we see of the family recipes as ogilvie has many more which could be used in her victorian cherub range, though she says it would likely be in a similar colour scheme.
