Italian inspired online furniture store launches
Italian-made ply furniture with a focus on longevity and sustainability is now available after the launch of online retailer Plyroom.
Founder Elise Heslop was inspired to start her business after a stint living and working in Italy. She noticed a trend for greater care of home furniture as opposed to the throw away culture in Australia.
“I was really impressed by how many options there are in Europe for children’s bedrooms. The creativity used in small spaces was so interesting, and this really stood out when looking at children’s rooms in particular,” she says.
“As we got to know more people and spend time in their homes, I began to see how intelligently small spaces were being used throughout the entire home, from the bedroom to the living room – maximising functionality without compromising quality or adding clutter.”
Many Plyroom designs are available with colour accents, which are eco-friendly, non-toxic and water based, as are the finishes. They meet Australian and European safety standards.
The children’s furniture also meets Australian and New Zealand safety standards having been independently tested.
“Much of the furniture at Plyroom is made from sustainably forested European Birch and flat packaged to reduce transport emissions. Our designers have spent years working to design a unique joinery system that avoids metal parts all together and retains the integrity of natural materials” says Heslop.
Products purchased from Plyroom are made to order in Italy and shipped Australia-wide.
