New Australian furniture brand Chelon launches
Founded by interior stylist Fiona Gould, the small furniture and homewares brand creates pieces with a focus on natural stone and Venetian plaster.
After spending years working for and with Australian magazines such as Home Beautiful, Real Living, Inside Out and Australian House & Garden, and shaping interior trends within the Australian landscape, Gould decided to release her own collection.
Inspired by her Italian heritage, Chelon’s name is taken from Gould’s maiden name of Michelon, with her love for the Mediterranean driving her vision for the brand.
All Chelon pieces are designed by Gould in Sydney and crafted from quality natural stone by skilled stonemasons, with Italian marble being the core material for her first collection.
“I just love the understated sophistication that marble brings to any space and I really believe it shines brightest when paired with simple forms and subtle details,” she says.
Venetian plaster is also a strong focus for the brand, with all plaster elements handcrafted by Gould herself using a labour intensive, speciality textural finish.
“I wanted to bring a luxurious textural element to the base of our ‘Camille’ tables and have always adored the lustrous effect Venetian plaster gives.
“The plaster finish is a blend of raw texture and a marble-like lustre, for a luxurious result that dances in the light and is beautiful to touch. There is a real art to working with Venetian plaster, I spent months studying and learning from top plaster artisans to perfect the exact look we wanted to achieve. It’s such a gorgeous versatile material that I think is highly underused in the furniture industry.”
The current collection includes the IDA fluted side and coffee table, Aimee tray and Camille organic side table. Chelon also offers bespoke design solutions for customers, providing custom sizes, colours and shapes from stone and Venetian plaster, in addition to other materials made by local artisans.
