New online store for conscious consumers
New Australian online store, Evolution Emptor, is targeting the growing eco-friendly market by specialising in stylish and sustainable products for conscious consumers.
Founder Janene Trickey explains that a conscious consumer is someone who is interested in the history of a product, and whether items they buy have had a negative effect on people, animals or the environment.
Evolution Emptor stocks a range of homewares, gifts, clothing and beauty products, which are all rigorously inspected to ensure they meet the sustainability and design standards set by the site.
“The products we stock, first of all, have to be well designed and functional,” says Trickey.
“We then check the supply chain to ensure the highest standards of workplace safety, conditions and environmental protection have been applied to their manufacture.”
Some of Evolution Emptor’s products are made overseas, but most have been designed and developed by Australian small businesses.
“We want to support Australian designers who are as passionate about sustainability as we are,” explains Trickey.
“The collection will evolve as we find stylish new products that meet our strict criteria.”
Evolution Emptor also donates 10 per cent of profits to charitable projects in Australia and abroad that match the site’s aims and ideals.
