Online retailer puts the light back into kids’ rooms
a mum and dad team unable to find the perfect nightlight for their new baby has launched an online business manufacturing personalised light boxes.
the adelaide-based business, mylight, allows customers to design their own nightlight to be delivered to their door within five to 10 working days.
founder greg vowles has a background in electronics and expertise as a sign writer, which he used to make the first prototype.
“we were looking for a well-made night light to help with night-time feeds and nappy changes, and all we could find were cheap and unattractive lights. that’s when we realised there was a gap in the market,” he says.
“the response from family and friends to the initial prototype was amazing and we quickly realised that mylight was unique. with a lot of support and encouragement we chose to provide mylight through a customised online store, so people everywhere would be able to buy our product,” he adds.
“as parents of young children we also wanted to make sure our product was made of only the highest quality materials, as we know how important safety is when curious little fingers get busy.”
the interior light is an led strip specifically selected for its energy efficiency. with a working life of 50,000 hours – 10 years if left on full-time – the led is not only great value, but makes mylight environmentally friendly as well.
“we want our children to be able to experience the same natural wonders that we enjoy today, so we incorporate a sustainable approach into our manufacturing process.”
