Pyjama brand The Goodnight Society launches
Organic sleepwear label, The Goodnight Society, has launched with a pop up shop in Brisbane and will soon go live with an online store.
Created by Kathryn Tyrrell, the brand combines her passion for pyjamas as gifts, and ethical materials and manufacturing.
“I found over the last few years I was struggling to find anything that I really liked and anything that I thought was still fun and maybe a bit quirky in the print design that wasn’t childish, still something that an adult would wear and just had really beautiful great design,” she says.
The range features men’s and women’s sleepwear in pants, shorts, tops and a nightie with the debut collection titled ‘What I like About You’.
“All of the prints start with a person in mind, for example one of my prints for men is ‘play around’ and it’s golf inspired, so we thought well if I was wanting to give something to a golfer and it was pyjamas, what kind of print would they like, what’s something fun and tongue in cheek that we could come up with for them? So we came up with eight different prints that were all related in some way to somebody or something about them or that they loved doing.”
The Goodnight Society products are manufactured in India under fairtrade conditions overseen by organic clothing company 3Fish.
“I feel like pyjamas are something that just create so much happiness for people – it’s that moment of happiness and it’s always a little bit of fun – that’s kind of useless if you’ve got people in your supply chain who are not being looked after. So I wanted everyone to be happy, that’s why I went down the path of fairtrade and organic cottons and hopefully that’s just something down the track that will become the norm for business.”
Tyrrell plans to start wholesaling once the online store is established. “I think my brand and the story I have to tell with my brand, it is quite quirky and the prints are quite tongue in cheek and I’m definitely looking to work with some wholesalers who’ve got a same sort of sense about their brands as well, so that’s what I’ll be looking for I guess in the first six months.”
