Scandinavian kids label launches in Australia
Danish design label Only the beginning has been introduced to Sydney with the opening of its Paddington studio.
With the lack of bright, wearable clothes for kids in the Australian market, a trip home to Denmark led owner Rikke Bukh to bring Scandinavian design back to Sydney.
Bukh, who was originally an architect, became interested in kids fashion after having her two children.
“I love bright colours but I could never find anything for my son Kipp that was not in dull colours, with a logo of some sort on it,” she says. “I had spoken to many other mothers who had the same problem.
“When I dressed Kipp and my daughter Mila in clothes that my mother had sent over from Denmark, people always admired them and that was my light bulb moment.”
As soon as her second child turned one, now three years ago, Bukh embarked on a mission to meet with the best children’s wear designers in Denmark. She returned to Australia with collections such as Katvig, Christina Rohde and Aya Nya.
“I am so thrilled to be working not only with amazing designers, but also meeting wonderful clients who come into my shop,” she says.
“As an architect I worked long hours and was away from my family for long stretches of time. Now with an online shop and a studio that is open for private viewing of my collection, I am able to balance my life with my kids and husband and by fulfilling my ambitions to have my own business.”
Bold colours and prints hang side by side with Scandinavian inspired florals and beautiful organic cotton pieces in Bukh’s Paddington studio. Each piece of clothing is handpicked for their unique aesthetics, design and quality.
“What is most important is that the clothes are durable and wearable, so that kids can just be kids,” she adds.
The clothing is available to buy at her online shop www.onlythebeginning.com.au
