Trending at Maison&Objet
Walking the halls at Maison&Objet this September we noticed a few trends popping up at the fair.
1 Copper, copper and copper… and gold—copper is still going strong and is joined by other ‘shiny’ materials such as gold and silver. It has spread across various categories including homewares, furniture and kitchenware.
2 Animals—whether they are ‘real’ or made from plastic, wood or even steel, and whether it’s a whole animal or just the head, they are popping up everywhere! This trend was around last year but seems to have really made its mark in 2015. Watch out for this one.
3 Recycling and upcycling—this trend is not slowing down anytime soon with the ‘old’ being turned into something ‘new’. Wood and steel are the main materials used. This also translates into more industrial designs.
4 Fusion—merging of the indoors and outdoors. Furniture can be used both inside and outside using weather resistant material which is also mould resistant and easy and quick to dry. This is a trend that would do well in the Australian climate.
5 3D printing—this trend has been around for a while but seems to really have picked up speed. Products such as lighting, jewellery and trays are now made using 3D printing.
