Emiti debuts scarf collection in product category shift
Melbourne made label Emiti has launched its first range of scarves as part of its move away from bags.
Designer Kim Stark chose the new direction because of her love of jewellery and the difficulty making bags locally at an affordable price point for consumers.
“I used to make jewellery during high school… and so it was about this time last year I really had this urge to make this necklace that popped into my head,” she says. “It was so much fun and it just reminded me of how much fun it is making things that are quite immediate and also jewellery [there’s] something about it, I just really like it and so I was wearing this necklace and everyone just kept commenting on it.”
Pieces include necklaces, rings and earrings and are inspired by candy. They feature bright colours and are made with wood.
Stark’s passion for wearing scarves led to her most recent addition to the Emiti range.
The Like scarf collection is screen printed with bright colours melding into one another and is abstract in style. Pieces are named after the images their colours evoke such as ‘like a really good sunset’ and ‘like a perfect ocean breeze’.
“It’s all made from recycled cotton voile and I’m doing all the screen printing for them myself. That has been great fun because I love scarves and I’ve been wanting to do them for ages and so now that I’m not doing bags it has freed up more time to make the scarves. I think they’re a nice complement to the jewellery range.”
Emiti’s new products have been well received by retailers as the trend for bright, bold colours continues to grow. They also have a good price point and are easily identifiable as giftware options.
“I’ve got these beautiful little things I’d love to add to the range but at the moment I’m happy with the jewellery and the scarves are very fresh and new and certainly been lots of fun to make,” Stark adds.
